The cirit, jirit or djirit, is a team equestrian sport from Turkey whose goal is to score points by throwing a javelin cut in wood on the riders of the opposing team. This sport was introduced in Anatolia by the Turks who came from Central Asia with their horses, then it spread rapidly throughout the Ottoman Empire. Today, cirit is mostly practiced in eastern Turkey.
